La Pietra

Who knew this school, La Pietra school for girls, was even in Honolulu never mind gracing the bottom of Diamond Head.  The school itself is more than just charming, it's beauty reminds you of something from Europe.  Hawaii, once again you amaze me.

Only slightly colored tips of white bougainvillea.  Although this flower isn't too fragrant, it's paper-like petals remind me of something sweet and delicate...and special.

Every time I pass by the Dole Plantation I truly want a pineapple.   No matter how many times it happens in a day I crave a crisp, sweet, pineapple slice to accompany those hot salty days to the north shore.

Chinaman's hat

This side of the island makes reminds me of lost time.  I can't really explain it well but it makes me feel like time gets lost here and I'm okay with that.

If you can believe it this sunrise was even more beautiful than this in person.  Had to get up at literally the crack of dawn to shoot a indie movie poster at Makapu'u and this was our view on the way in.  Seriously, it takes seeing something like this to make you feel inseparable with Hawaii. 

Hail Mother Nature

 

Experiencing Kalalau Valley was a memorable experience.  And for some it was a moment of complete and utter graciousness. 

When we hiked into Kalalau 3 years ago we knew it'd be long (11 miles in, 11 miles out) but I personally had no idea that there'd be stark naked hippies every where.  And let me tell you, trying to make nice conversation with naked people is hard to do, especially when you're trying really hard (okay not that hard) not to stare at their junk.

Lucky 13

 

13 is my lucky number.  And this cow is very cute.  Two awesome things in one picture.

Whatever you call them (Frangipanis in Aus, Plumerias in Hawaii) they are fragrant and beautiful.  This was on a private road in Kona, a road I probably shouldn't have been on, but it was too gorgeous to pass up going down.  I love how you can just barely see the spider's silk on the left.  I was thinking about taking it out with photoshop but I thought it was actually kind of rad.

Na Pali

 

This was taken on a trip into Kalalau Valley on Kauai.  The mountains are covered with vog, which is volcano runoff in the air.  These cliffs or "NaPali" coast is considered one of the most beautiful places on earth, not just by me but by National Geographic, and those people know what their talking about!!

Red Sands

 

At the end of the road in Hana, if you are feeling adventurous, lies this enclosed beach covered in red sand.  Hawaii is so amazing, we've got white sand, black sand, red sand, green sand... (insert really witty Dr. Seus phrase here).

The wind in Hawaii is what makes our islands special.  It's our own personal A/C.  Sure we have our hot days but those tradewinds are magical.  And on a day like this, Dani, really appreciates a little breeze.  (at Kaka'ako beach park)

A misty mountain top can make you feel like a new person.  Trust me.  Nature this pure is a natural high.

Looks like a pretty amazing spot to swing life away.  I was trespassing onto this hillside so I didn't want to press my luck but the view below the swing (you'll have to take my word for it) was beautiful.

Yes, this is still Hawaii.

The Big Island can be like visiting a place far, far, away from Hawaii.  I love that it's so desolate, deserted, and solitary.  This Mauna Kea in May.
